The big problem is guaranteed contracts.

Forget these guys are professional athletes for a second. How long would an accountant make it if they followed your advice? How far would a professor make it in life if they trashed thier school everytime they did not get thier own way?

As an employee you have every right to go find a new situation UNLESS you have placed yourself in a position where you don't have that power. Generally to get that kinda security you have to give up something too. IN htis case to get a 6 year contract from the Raptors, Hornets, et al a player gives up the right to trash the organization, because in turn that organization can't just not pay him. It's a two way street.
