It's Decision Time for Nets' Collins

Jason Collins has until Oct. 31 to sign a contract extension with the Nets. If Collins, a 7-foot center, cannot come to an agreement with the team by then, he cannot negotiate with the Nets during the season but can become a restricted free agent afterward.
"In general, it would be prudent for me to evaluate every option available to me at this point in time," the Stanford-educated Collins said Friday before the Nets played the Boston Celtics in a preseason game.

Collins would not comment specifically on negotiations but is believed to be seeking a four-year deal for about $6 million a year. General Manager Ed Stefanski said, "We would like to see if we could get something done there, too."
Collins praised Thorn and Stefanski for deals they had made.
"Rod and Ed Stefanski have made some good decisions," he said. "So as far as stability goes within the organization, having Rod under contract for the next six years is a good thing. But I also understand that this is a business and things change."
