The Celtics traded Payton, who had been playing well, to Atlanta with the expectation that he would not play there and that the Hawks would try to negotiate a buyout and waive him. By the end of the week, Hawks General Manager Billy Knight said he was in discussions with Payton's agent, Aaron Goodwin. Miami and Indiana are interested, and the Celtics could get him back.
I think this could be a true indicator Jamaal Tinsley's injury is worse than we are being lead to believe.
Its a long shot at best but does signal Tinsley could be out a while.

Signing Payton would be great, but I do agree with the guy that it could signal Tinsley being out for a while. Payton still has a lot left, and I'd have no problem making him our starter over Anthony Johnson while Tinsley's out. He could also mentor Tinsley, especially on the defensive end.
