The Indiana Pacers, with a roster spot available for a free agent and questions in the backcourt, met with veteran NBA point guard Tim Hardaway on Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
"I'd say if we're going to do something we'll do it sometime in the next week," said team president Donnie Walsh, who would not confirm he had met with Hardaway.
Starting point guard Jamaal Tinsley has been erratic (30.6 percent shooting, 2.77 assists per turnover), has been pulled late in games by coach Isiah Thomas, and has missed three games since the All-Star break to be with his seriously ill mother. Back-up Erick Strickland has started six of 56 games, averaging 6.3 points and 2.7 steals.
A five-time NBA All-Star, the 36-year-old Hardaway played with Dallas and Denver last season. He is working with ESPN on NBA telecasts this season.
