Earning their keep

Yes, the Pistons must rely on their bench more to keep the starters fresh. But that doesn't compel Saunders to go to the reserves unless they have worked their way into the game plan.

Saunders' main reserves are Antonio McDyess, Maurice Evans and Carlos Arroyo. Others, such as Darko Milicic, Carlos Delfino and even rookie Jason Maxiell, also would like to get a little more playing time.

"Here's the thing: I don't give anybody anything," Saunders said. "You earn that. You want those guys to play, but they also have to know -- which was told to them -- that you earn your minutes by what you do in practice and how you take advantage of opportunity in games."
