Rebuilding successfully
...requires the right combination of young guys and vets. We have talent, as you said, but we don't have the right chemistry or combination of players. Chicago is close but will go only as far a Chandler can take them and he is not progressing as expected. Denver was close but injuries have killed them. At this point, I really believe we have to keep the young guys and try to trade for one impact player while trying to clear some salary to match Houston's coming off the books. It may be possible to get one of the big FAs to come to NY if: we can show any promise (and maybe they can get a bigger endorsement deal by being in NY) and can offer a contract extension for the max if we manage to get under the cap. Not sure but if we can clear H2O, Marbury, Penny, AD, plus Rose and Taylor, we should be under. Might take 2 years but its do-able, I think. Maybe we can offer a FA a 2 year contract with the ability to max him out over time. NY has a rep for taking care of their players. A lot od ifs but possible.
