I always hate it when we in the media feel the need to call the next great white basketball player the next Larry Bird or the next great black quarterback the next Michael Vick or Randall Cunningham. Why can't we just compare players based on talent rather than skin color? That's what I do every time I watch Chris Paul. I can't help but think the Hornets rookie is the second coming of John Stockton; a gritty 6-foot, 175-pound point guard that can find an open teammate just as easily as he can hit an open jump shot whenever he steps onto the court. The funny thing is before the Clippers-Hornets game on Wednesday, Hornets assistant coach Jim Clemmons said New Orleans was ready to select Deron Williams on draft day before the Jazz traded up to draft the Illinois guard, leaving Paul as the easy choice at No. 4. "We thought those two guards were head and shoulders above everyone else," he said. "When the Jazz traded up to get Deron that made our decision real easy."
