Re: A Tribe Called Quest Is Coming to Toronto!!!
shookem... come on dawg, are you acting like I don't go to shows?
Weezer will attract idiot kids because of their last album and songs like "Beverly Hills". Just like Green Day will. You have to realize a lot of these kids haven't even heard the Blue Album or Dookie. It's the same crowd for shows like Billy Talent (where the only older people were the kids' ****ing parents) and the Used. Lots of idiot kids.
As for Slayer, I'm guessing you're talking about the July 4th show... a big thing with that crowd had to do with their opening bands. Lamb of God and Children of Bodom are "in-bands" for those hardcore, gothy idiot kids. I liken that to the Deftones show I saw in April... most of the crowd wasn't even there for them, but rather openers like Atreyu and As I Lay Dying. As sad as it is, Slayer and the Deftones aren't the ones selling those tickets anymore. I've seen both those bands before, Slayer in 2002, Deftones in 2003, without the long list of hip openers, and the crowds were totally different - much older.
In fact, I'd say all-ages underground hip hop shows (The Roots, K-Os, etc.) and all-ages metal shows (Machine Head, Slayer, etc.) cover the same general demographic in their crowd age groups.
When it comes down to it, people go to see the artists they're familiar with. And the younger crowd is much more familiar with a band like System of a Down than they are with umm say, A Tribe Called Quest(!!!) lol... I won't expect idiot kids at that one, even if it is all-ages.
