Baxter's *** is still in jail and he's up against some new law in DC designed to combat recent increases in violent crime(Apparently they were moved to action when some tourists were the victims as opposed to the years of the same stuff happening in low income neighbourhoods)
Lonny Baxter, the former University of Maryland basketball star turned professional player arrested this week on felony gun charges, will be staying in jail until at least Wednesday.
Baxter, who starred for Maryland's 2002 national championship team, was due to have a hearing today in D.C. Superior Court to determine whether he would continue to be held in the D.C. jail without bond.
But Baxter's lawyers, Richard Finci and Harold Martin, told Magistrate Judge J. Dennis Doyle that they wanted to postpone the hearing because they plan to challenge a recent bail law change that presumes anyone charged with carrying a pistol without a license to be dangerous.
