It was a surgical repair of a minor ligament tear. It was largely done as a preventative measure - fix it now so it doesn't get worse later. This is not the type of injury that's likely to recur and absolutely not an indication of a "chronic shoulder problem". It's not like he had a torn rotator cuff (which is a tendon, not a ligament which heals much faster) - and even that can be surgically repaired (but the surgery is more extensive and the rehab much longer).

The Blazers have a lot invested in this young man. They are not in a "win now" situation where they need Aldridge performing at his top level in early Novemeber, (or anytime this season) to compete for the title. He is their big man of the future. They knew that when they drafted him and nothing has changed that. They are going to do everything they can to insure he has a long, healthy career. That's why they elected to do this surgery now. It was the right decision, and anyone who thinks being sidelined during September and October of his rookie year is a major setback needs to get a grip on reality. As for those using this to validate their disappointment that we took Aldridge over Morrison - Morrison's diabetes is much more likely to be a long term concern than Aldridge's minor ligament tear.

BNM

P.S. I wish Adam Morrison nothing but the best (except that he goes 0-17 everytime he plays against the Blazers) and hope he can overcome his diabetes to have a very long and successful career. I do like his game (at least on offense) and especially his effort and passion. I just think long term, Aldridge was the better choice for the future of this organization.
