Kyle Lowry article [David Aldridge]
A shot in the dark
Quote:
NBA rookies are supposed to be damned with faint praise from their elders, who have seen it all, spent it all, and done most of it all - and don't want any wet-behind-the-ears kid taking any of it away.
But the Grizzlies' Eddie Jones does not subscribe to this theory.
He has seen the team's future, and in his mind, it's Kyle Lowry.
"I don't give a damn who went before him," Jones said last week. "That [guy] can play. He's going to be a player in this league, believe me. Let me be a GM somewhere in the future. I'm trying to get him. He can play, man. He's smart. He seems like he's been in the league already, like he's already here, just the type of things he does."
But Lowry is the future.
Ask Jones to compare Lowry to young points in the league such as Sebastian Telfair or Kirk Hinrich, and you get eye-rolls of disdain.
"You see how [Lowry] uses his body when he gets to the basket?" Jones asks. "He reminds so much of Rod Strickland. He gets there, and he knows to finish and knows how to get that foul. Look at how many times he's been to the line over the preseason games, when they don't give rookies calls. He's going to be a heck of a talent."
