Re: Jalen Rose may be released...

He's clashed with most of the coaches he's been under. Now, not saying that's all his fault, but there clearly is something to that. He griped in Toronto about having a reduced role (which was both fair and unfair to him, he was playing horribly there last year but he also wasn't getting any time to bounce back), and clashed with Isiah in Indiana. Maybe the problem isn't with his attitude, but he clearly does have a history of feuding with coaches.

As far as player ability goes, you're probably right. He's effective on offense and dangerous from the three, and he's also a fairly good passer, but he basically has to be offensively dangerous to make up for his defense. I lived in New York for a month last year and saw a few Knicks games, and he was awful defensively, even compared to his teammates, who couldn't defend worth a lick either. It's not bad enough to offset his offense (yet), but all told, I don't think we'd come out ahead if we picked him up. I'd be more in favor of it if Ben Wallace were still around, since he could somewhat make up for a bad defender's mishaps.

It's hard to criticize these kinds of pickups since they're almost all low-risk propositions, but they often tend to cut into the development of youth. That's fine if you're definitely a title contender, but it's riskier in my eyes, especially since I consider this season to be more of a question mark than most other people on this board.

Who knows, I could be wrong. It's not like I hate him (can't really hate the Fab Five), I just think his impact is a little overstated.
