Not that I'm endorsing the idea, but the court of public opinion doesn't put BC on the stand too often, half because he is part of an iconic basketball family, and half because he usually makes good moves. After doubting his move to Toronto the Raps became the AD leaders, after doubting the Ford trade Villanueva is repeatedly injured and Ford helps steer the team into a bright future.
Who out there has the cojones to take Mitchell to task if he hires the most coveted free agent coach on the market? Smitch's friends like Barkley might complain, as would Doug Smith, who has been in Smitch's pocket this season for some bizarre (possibly masochistic) reason... Raps fans who are diehards for Mitchell are a minority it seems.
Phoenix had a lot of coaching turnover with BC at the helm. Paul Westphal was replaced with the ancient Cotton Fitzsimmons, who retired shortly after and was succeeded by Danny Ainge, then Scott Skiles took over, then Frank Johnson, then finally Mike D'Antoni. Six coaches in ten years, a span during which the team averaged 44 wins.
