Re: Magic @ Raptors, Mar. 21st
I haven't seen much of the Magic the last two years, but they look horrible and I just don't see the upside. Howard will be an anchor in the middle and keep them from being a bottom feeder but he doesn't have an offensive game outside 6 feet right now and he has to start shooting FT's better. Darko was invisible in 20 minutes. Grant Hill is likely gone and he is still their 2nd best player. Turk and Ariza on the wings is serviceable but won't scare anyone. And Nelson is just an OK starting PG. Overall it looks like a bad mix, especially when GHill retires or leaves.
Still they could have easily won this game with decent FT shooting a just a couple of made shots.
TJ was horrible in the first quarter, playing waaaaayyyyy out of control. Even 1 assist he got to Rasho for an open foul line shot came after a wild drive where he barely saved the ball inbounds and was looking for anyone to pass it to out of desperation. And plays like the shot clock violation which probably was charged against Bosh was TJ's fault for killing the clock and giving it to CB with only a second left. Overall TJ's 5 official TO's aren't bad for the minutes he played tonight but there are always several bobbled passes that could have been layups with a better delivery and wild drives that are near turnovers and kill the clock. Plus the possessions where he is just determined to get his shot no matter what. He is a sloppy player too often.
That one great play where he made the 4 and then stole the ball for the alley-oop seemed to turn his half around and get him going. Surprisingly nbatv didn't even put that on its top 10 of the night.
Bosh was a monster. He brings it every night, even when he is having an off night.
Have to say Raps got lucky tonight though. Low scoring effort, low percentage shooting usually means Raps lose. And the D was not great other than being physical on Howard and doubling him right away. Magic just missed- layups and open shots. Led to 45 defensive rebounds. Magic were awful.
MoP looks stoned or something. I see no life in his eyes. Its like he's checked out of Toronto already. Although I did see him jump up and cheer from the bench after a big play.
Graham continues to rebound and shoot well when he gets minutes. Hump was very physical on D and has good strength inside, but I still wish Sow and Slokar had been given minutes earlier in the year. Dixon is a very nice offensive weapon. Finishes pretty well inside for his size.
