well, to be technical about it...
Yugoslavia was a nation. A nation is an artificial political construct. It was never an ethnicity. There are no ethnic Yugoslavians. It was created, artificially, by western powers sorting out the pieces after world wars one and two.
Your nationality must be to a nation. When a nation no longer exists, you can no longer have that nationality.
It is correct to say he was born in Yugoslavia. But no-one can be correctly termed "Yugoslavian" anymore.
All of which demeans the damn funny line, which I thoroughly enjoyed anyway!
