Based on what i know about the salary cap. Atkins got 6.6 million over two years. If its not front loaded he could be paid as low as 3.14 million his first year.
the MLE is 5.215.
Navarro could have a starting salary as high as 2.075 million. Or a two year deal worth 4.36 million. The Wizards have a week to make a deal. Navarro would like 3 years at 12 million. Basically he wants 4 million a year and teams like the Nuggets can give him just over 2.
Again he's a 2nd round draft pick, so 2 million for a year isnt horrible either. Its a tough situation. The Wizards have to lower their standards (to find a trading partner) and he has to agree to a contract in a week. this is exactly why denver should investigate this. Especially if he ends up getting traded to a team in a similar situation. If he really wants to make the nba he will take a 2 year deal for 4.36 million. And his agent will make sure that 2nd year is a player option.
If Navarro gets traded and gets a contract for 3 years at 12 million all done in a week... that will be impressive.
I'm just saying talking about Navarro would make more sense then these superstar blockbusters for denver. I'm not advocating this deal is good for washington, but it appears to be one they would be interested in. they get a pick and unload contracts. Then Denver unloads a contract of their own in a seperate transaction with the lakers. Camby is an oustanding player. But its a team like the Lakers or other teams that are in these self absorbing win now (or trade me) dramas that we need to trade camby to. Personally even if we dont get Bynum, the expiring contract plus cook and a pick arent a horrible replacement for it.
