Hey Jericho - Yes, guys in the league will be required to purchase the basketball game since each coach will need to play their 41 home games during the regular season on their computer with the software. Initially the game is a little spendy. But by the time most guys spend hours and hours playing the game, setting up those "what if's", replaying your favorite team, creating your own draft league, autoplaying tons of games, or whatever other project you can dream up, it is probably one of the cheapest forms of entertainment out there.
Plus, if you were too young to watch some of these teams or players from the 80's or even earlier, it is a great tool to learn about them since the game does a good job of demonstrating the the strengths and weaknesses for teams as well as individual players. And if you were following the NBA during a particular time it is great to re-experience.
