Wells' latest blog (Armstrong update)

Quote:
I had a chance to catch up with Darrell Armstrong over the phone recently and it sounds like if the Pacers and Armstrong have a say in anything, the 39-year-old point guard won't be back with the blue and gold this season.

Armstrong, a high-energy player with a non-guaranteed contract with the Pacers, has enrolled his children in school in Atlanta as he waits to find out where he’ll play his 14th season in the league.
Quote:
“I really respect the organization in what they’re doing,” Armstrong said. “I mentioned a couple of teams I wouldn’t mind playing for. We’ll see what happens.”
Armstrong didn’t say what teams, but Golden State and Dallas are believed to be his top choices. He’d be reunited with Don Nelson, who coached him in Dallas, along with former Pacers teammates Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington in the Bay Area. Armstrong spent two seasons with the Mavericks.
Armstrong, who said he’s been working out on a regular basis in Atlanta, is expected to report to training camp if the Pacers can’t find a way to trade him.
Quote:
Speaking of Diener, he’s expected to get the soft cast off his left hand any day now after suffering a slight break in it after falling while running backwards during a pickup game earlier this summer. Diener’s right handed.

Diener, who has been limited to non-contact drills, is expected to be ready for the start of training camp Oct. 2.
Quote:
“(The Pacers) have expressed interest and we’re pretty close to (making) a decision,” Cornstein said.

Charlotte and Phoenix are also reportedly interested in Batista, who averaged 20.8 points and 12.4 rebounds during the FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas. Batista, who would give the Pacers another big body in the front court, obviously likes the international game because he only averaged 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 8.2 minutes in two years with the Atlanta Hawks.
Quote:
The Pacers are expected to bring about 16 players to training camp. Counting Armstrong, they currently have 15 players under contract. President Larry Bird said O’Brien doesn’t want a lot of players in camp.
Quote:
“Training camp’s going to be hard. We’re going to run a lot. We’ll spend a lot of time down in our stance. I know what guys here have done (conditioning). I think we’ve had a pretty good summer. If guys come in out of shape they’ll pay for it. We’re going to be a running team, and the type of defensive team we’re going to be, we have to sprint both ways.”
