In a perfect world we would have resigned Armstrong to mentor Gaines. However, I believe Lue is the second best option. Like somebody pointed out earlier he is the perfect complement to the big point guard Gaines. Lue also has more experience than Daniels, and he's probably cheaper. Lue gives the Magic a lot of flexibility for their lineups next year:

These are the 3 I think we'll see the most:

Small Lineup
Lue/Gaines
T-Mac
Giricek
Gooden
Howard

Big Lineup
Lue/Gaines
T-Mac
Howard
Gooden
DeClerq/Hunter

2 PG Set (Doc used this a lot once we got Whitney)
Lue
Gaines
T-Mac
Gooden
Howard

Also, I think Lue can handle being the starter at the beginning unlike some people suggested. I think he will play 25-30 mins which is what he did in Washington. Also, Gaines will end up playing about those minutes. IMO we'll see a lot of that 2 PG lineup that I posted, or some variation of it, especially later in the season as Gaines gets experience.
