Chandler leaves with knee injury

The most anticipated individual matchup between the Hornets and the Orlando Magic ended prematurely Monday night at the New Orleans Arena.

Hornets center Tyson Chandler fell to the court with a little more than three minutes remaining in the second quarter, clutching his right knee and wincing. The replay showed his knee buckling as he ran up the court during the 95-88 Hornets loss, and the team released a statement at halftime that said he had a hyperextended knee and would be out for at least the rest of the game. After the game, his MRI exam results came back negative.

Chandler was in the Hornets' locker room, smiling, about a half hour after the game. He said he was trying to get back on defense when his knee went backward, and "everything went numb."

He also said his knee had been feeling better since the injury occurred. Chandler said that he never had a major knee injury, but he hyperextended his other knee in a game last week.

"I'm happy," Chandler said. "It's scary when you can't feel nothing."
