They didn't have HCA. HCA went to the team with the best record. Denver was the #3 seed and Memphis and the Clippers were jockeying for 5th. Late in the season, Memphis and the Clippers played each other and both tried to lose cuz if they lost they would've gotten the 6th seed and had HCA against a not very good Denver team. But if they won, they had to play Dallas without HCA. It was totally stupid. The Clippers lost the game and then beat the Nuggets in the first round. Memphis won the game but was rewarded by getting swept by the Mavs. So the NBA changed it. It's still kinda stupid but whatever.
