Websters Draft position is irrelevant to this trade scenario. Heck, noone thought that Gilbert Arenas was going to be any good, or Carlos Boozer. Likewise, the reverse is true. There are plenty of sleepers and plenty of busts (ahem...Darko...) in every draft year. And im not saying that Webster is a bust by any means. However if we were offered Redd for Webster, Jack, Raef and a first rd pick i would probably go ahead and do it.
We already have a logjam at PG, so removing Jarrett from the team will free up time for Sergio to develop. Raef is useless at this point and IMO Webster has a ceiling probably equivalent to where Michael Redd is right now.
And please dont fool yourself...Webster isnt a good defender at all. If we traded for Redd we wouldnt be losing much defensive firepower. And with Oden next year, we can afford to have mediocre defenders on the perimeter.
Take into account John Hollingers Player Efficiency Ratings on the NBA.
Redd is rated 7th among active SG's and Webster is ranked 42nd among SF's. If you need a detailed description of what PER is take a look at
this link. The average NBA PER is 15, webster is listed at 12.34 and Redd at 20.98.
Don't get me wrong, i think webster is going to be a force in this league. I just think that if the opportunity to land a player of Redd's quality we should take it. Because I am unsure if we will have the chance to get anyone better in 2009.
