Oh right, I thought I read like 2 days ago that Kobe wanted to play in the ASG regardless.
Anyway, how come he can be replaced in the 3pt shoot-out but not the ASG?

The three point shoot out would require efficiency to win the event. He could play in the ASG just for the sake of appearing in it. he can still entertain by just making some stylish passes which he loves to do anyway, so there's that difference.
