My dad owns his own business that benefits the community, why can he get the tax payers and city to pay for his facilities? I know this is a much smaller scale, but the point is the same.

Whoa, I didn't say that the people of a city should be forced. However, when other cities build new arenas in hopes of luring franchises there, that's when it becomes build an arena or lose the team. I don't want them to leave Seattle, but they don't have to do anything. If an owner deems that you have to foot the bill, it would be better to lose the team IMO. That's what league pass is for.
