Re: Well this is the worst tourney I can remember..

The first weekend was excellent. The Saturday / Sunday games was probably the most entertaining college basketball I had seen since the elite eight weekend of 2005 which was probably the most entertaining set of games in NCAA tournament history.

The Sunday games were also quite good highlighted by Daivdson-Georgetown... the only non-competitive basketball the entire weekend was the last set of matches where UNC and Lousiville trounched there opposition. But is was very good competitive basketball where 1/2/3 seeds were getting tested.

The first round was pretty good.. not great, but the second round has easily passed the first round for ny excitement. I honestly don't understand why people need upsets to justify watching the tournament. Friday was a good day, lots of competive basketball.

However, since the Georgeotwon - Davidson game things have been generally uncompetitive, with maybe 2 close games??? Obviously Davidson - Kansas but other then that little competiveness.

The third and fourth round is always hit and miss, as I told a guy at work before those rounds started. It is in those rounds that the dominant teams assert themselves and dominate other pretty good teams.... and that's what happended... The one seeds kicked ***, not just won, the entire weekend. I was hoping for much more competition, but instead we got dominanace.

Thought the final four would be great with outstanding teams who for the most part had been more dominannt reaching the final four then prior year entrants. Well, we got two stinkers.

Overall, my grades are:

Round 1 : B+ (day 2 had the meaningless 12/13 upsets that were still exciting)
Round 2 : A+ (best round since round 4 in 2005)
Round 3 : D (too many teams laid down)
Round 4 : B (Louisville stayed competitive for a while, and Davidson / Kansas saved the weekend, plus generally there was eight very good teams playing that weekend.. would have hoped for more competitiveness)
Round 5 : C+ (two teams didn't show up, for what should have been more competitive games - gets a C because of the sheer quality of the teams that played.. otherwise grade would have been lower.. also some years I have not been that excited come round five, this year I was really looking forward to the game as well as the national championshio)

To date the tournament has been average.
