Nobody is saying that PER is perfect, it's only a measure of efficiency after all, but it's pretty accurate with some exceptions. Kobe could easily be fourth in MVP voting because Garnett, Paul and Lebron are all deserving.
Look at what Hollinger said and please someone tell me what is wrong about it:

I think if Kobe had never won a championship before and someone of those other three did he might have less of an edge. You can go down as one of the best players without having won a regular season MVP because there was no season when Kobe could clearly be considered the best player in the league. I expect Kobe to win MVP this season, but it wouldn't be a travesty if he did not.
