KG just had to switch teams to do it. Both are playing the best defense they have in years, worthy of the Defensive 1st team. KG's is at another level of course. I don't see how he doesn't walk away with a very handy lead for DPOTY (other players on the team have stepped up on that end, of course, but he's been the main factor of one of the best defenses ever, as you mentioned).

I'd be stunned if Garnett finished in the top three, really. Much like Duncan I assume that people take the defense for granted (and I've seen the "look at how his numbers have dropped" line of argument here and from media folks, too). Garnett did have the advantage that he stepped into a defensive system that plays to his strengths, so there was a lot of serendipity involved. But I think that Bryant, Paul, and James are going to swamp him in the voting. I tend to think that Paul's going to edge out the win for "saving basketball in New Orleans", but that's a discussion for another day. (I mean, really, when was the last time one of these wasn't a prom queen vote?)
