pip's highest finish was 3rd in '94, behind hakeem and robinson. and his finishing 3rd was a pretty good reflection of how highly he was regarded at the time.
coming in the top 2 in the mvp voting 7 times isn't a reflection of being a top player for more than 4-5 years? top 4 9 times? i mean, you could look up his seasons on your own and analyze how good he was yourself during that period, or you could simply remember how good he was during that time, but his mvp placement certainly is an easy, obvious reflection of his status in the game at the time.
