First of all, Jennings doesn't have to get a blockbuster, big money deal to make this worth it to him. He's getting paid, and he will have access 24/7 to the coaches and training facilities. That's all he really needs.
As for the team, Jennings is just another piece to add that could help out the team. What's taking a flier on someone like Brandon Jennings? The market for him won't command a huge salary anyway.
People have also brought up the rarity of a one year contract for a player his age, so what the hell, why not sign him to a 3 year deal with a standard NBA buyout every summer? Jennings can go pro if he wants, the team gets compensated, everybody wins.
