SHANNON SET TO JOIN RAMS FOR 2013-14 SEASON
RICHMOND, Va. – Less than a month after graduating from Florida State with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, Terrance Shannon, a 6-8, 240-pound forward, has enrolled at VCU. He will be eligible to play immediately.
We're excited about Terrance's arrival at VCU. He comes from a very strong program and has had significant success at a high level. We look forward to the toughness and aggressiveness that Terrance will add to our frontcourt.
Last season, he was the Seminoles' third-leading scorer (7.9 ppg), second-leading rebounder (5.9 rpg) and led the team in steals per game with 1.2.
During his time at FSU, he played in two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT. He earned a medical redshirt for the 2011-12 season after a shoulder injury limited him to just seven games.
The Forsyth, Ga. native fortifies a VCU frontcourt that includes All-Atlantic 10 selection Juvonte Reddic, rising junior Jarred Guest and freshmen Mo Alie-Cox and Antravious Simmons.
Shannon joins four other newcomers on VCU's roster next season. The Rams return six players from last year's NCAA Tournament team. Sophomore Teddy Okereafor and freshman Justin Tuoyo have decided to transfer from the program.

That makes 4 ESPN 4-star recruits in the last 3 recruiting classes for VCU:Jonathan Williams (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict)
PG, 5-11, 170
Committed to VCU
Williams finishes well in the lane for a player of his size and has the type of speed defenders struggle with. He has excellent body control and touch, especially when shooting the floater. Williams sets the tone on defense with his on-ball pressure in both the full and the half court.
He was hiding somewhere near the fringe of the team picture when VCU made its stunning Final Four run in 2011 and established itself as a significant brand, but he has been more toward the center of the frame as the Rams have demonstrated they are a major program. The move from the Colonial to the Atlantic 10 last season did not daunt Reddic in the least. He increased his scoring output roughly 40 percent and rebounding by about 25 percent. Even another 10 percent bump this year will place him among college basketball’s elite big men.
Virginia Commonwealth’s Treveon Graham is scheduled to leave this weekend for USA Basketball’s training camp for the World University Games.
Graham, who averaged 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds last season, is one of 27 players trying to make the 12-man roster. Graham, 6 foot 5, is listed as a forward, although his versatility as a guard will help.
Rams garnering early top 25 attention
VCU, which spent several weeks in The Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls last season, has been listed among next season’s early top 25 picks by several national writers.
The Rams return three double-figure scorers — including second-team all-A-10 picks Graham and Juvonte Reddic — and two others who averaged at least 5 points on last year’s team, which went 27-9.
VCU adds an interior presence in Florida State transfer forward Terrance Shannon, plus two players who sat out and four true freshmen. The question mark is at point guard, where the Rams lose two-year starter Darius Theus.
“I think preseason polls — I just don’t think they’re very sophisticated,” VCU coach Shaka Smart said. “People take a quick look at who you have coming back and maybe who you have coming in. It’s a best-guess. That’s fine. It’s fun for the fans and the media.
“What I expect is no different from what I’ve expected every year that I’ve been here, which is for us to have a great season. We want to compete with the best teams in our region, the best teams in our conference and, hopefully, the best teams in the country.”
Not bad for an unranked 3-star. Guess Rivals got that one wrong.REDDIC AMONG SELECT GROUP INVITED TO NIKE’S BIG MAN SKILLS ACADEMY
RICHMOND, Va. – The tagline for Nike EYBL's Big Man Skills Academy is "Where the Best Get Better," and that's exactly what VCU rising senior Juvonte Reddic will be looking to do this week in Union, N.J.
Reddic is among 13 collegiate big men selected to participate in the three-day event, which features NBA stars Amare Stoudemire and Anthony Davis.
The Winston-Salem , N.C. native is one of just two big men outside the power-six conferences selected to participate, joining UNLV's Khem Birch.
It's a three-day event with four scheduled closed workouts in front of numerous NBA personnel and a fifth workout open to the media on Wednesday, June 26th.
Reddic is coming off an outstanding junior season in which he posted 11 double-doubles en route to 14.6 points per game and a team-leading 8.1 rebounds per game. He ranked in the top-20 nationally with a field-goal percentage of 56.9-percent. He earned a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team and the VaSID All-State Second Team.
He also became the third junior in the past four years to reach the 1,000-point plateau, finishing the 2012-13 campaign with 1,025 career points. That mark currently ranks 30th on VCU's all-time scoring list.
The camp is set to begin today at 4 p.m.
Congrats to Reddic. The kid is a stud that works hard which is nice to see.The Winston-Salem , N.C. native is one of just two big men outside the power-six conferences selected to participate, joining UNLV's Khem Birch.
