Monterrey, MX. The ABA Monterrey Mexico professional basketball team for the 2006-2007 season was presented last Friday to the citizens of Monterrey. At a press conference held at the team's first sponsor, Hooters, Alfredo Gonzalez, team president and Hugo Diaz, a member of the council of owners, announced that the team's name would be the Monterrey Poison.
Also in attendance were owners Carlos and Salvador Thomas and Robert Mayer. Thomas stated, "We are pleased to be playing at the Tecnologico of Monterrey Gym which holds 4000 seats and is located inside the campus of the prestigious University in Latino America."
At the press conference, the team logo was presented - a simulated rattle snake, typical in the state of Nuevo Leon, where Monterrey is located, protecting the ABA red, white and blue ball. The uniforms will be a combination of navy blue with light green and white.
Thomas added, "Our team is preparing for the summer. We expect 80 boys and girls to participate in our kids camp which I am going to be holding." (Thomas is also a professional basketball player). In the summer camp, participants are going to receive clinics of the techniques of basketball and examples of how to conduct themselves in society to be better citizens.
