Re: US Open 2012
Djokovic was totally spent by the time he got to the 5th set. He had to expend so much energy getting back in the 2nd set from down 4-0, winning the 3rd and 4th sets that he didn't have anything left. Damn shame too, he could've easily won the 1st and 2nd sets. Murray played a heck of a match though, well deserved. I guess I can stop rooting against him, he finally has a grand slam in his 11th time making the semis and 5th time in the finals.

Re: US Open 2012
My internet died halfway through the 4th set, and I wasn't staying up with no-one to talk to. But, what a ****ing year for British sport, and Andy Murray.

Re: US Open 2012
Andy is the boy.
And @ Brian, after this year, how can you not like him? Wimbledon, the Olympics and now this. Sports Personality of the Year is going to be a mother****.

Re: US Open 2012
Pretty cool that we actually got 4 different grand slam winners this year, first time in a while.
A couple questions to the few tennis fans we have on here. What does this win do for Murray, does this open the flood gates much like his coach Ivan Lendl's career? Lendl didn't win until his 5th grand slam final, just like Murray. He was 24, Murray is 25 now. After finally getting over the hump, Lendl won 5 slams in the next 3 years and a total of 7 more for his career. I kind of feel like we're finally in that transition period in the men's game. Last year, it looked like Djokovic was ready to dominate the sport in the post Nadal/Federer era, but he's come back down to earth a bit this year. Obviously the number of opportunities for Roger and Rafa are dwindling for a multitude of reasons. Is this the first of many for Murray? Are we going to see Djokovic reclaim world #1 next year, win multiple grand slams and ascend into the upper echelon of men's tennis history? Will someone else emerge, maybe a del Potro or Tsonga can take that final step up to challenge Murray and Djokovic? How about a young guy like Milos Raonic, Kei Nishikori? Basically, what do you guys think we'll see over the next few years in the men's game? |
