Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Another good win for Wisconsin today. A big one against Izzo on Thursday...I don't want to sound cocky and jinx us...but I believe we're the team to beat in the clubhouse...we're not going to go anything but 16-2 in league play.
Jason Bohanon's jumper is coming around at the right time...when he shoots it's almost as if I'll be surprised if he doesn't make it. Marcus Landry's timely buckets have been clutch all year. Michael Flowers defense and ability to make plays on offense have been awesome. Just so hard to defend us...we have so many weapons. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Big win over Sparty tonight. Everyone looked pretty good, I don't really know what else to say. We're very likely going to be 16-2 in the Big Ten this season, which is incredible. We need some help from MSU and OSU. They both have home games against Indiana and Ohio State respectively coming up which could hand us the Big Ten title. I'm suspicious of the game at Northwestern because they always seem to screw us at the worst possible time in every sport, but it's looking good.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here...I say Purdue nips OSU...HOWEVER I believe that the Michigan Wolverines and John Belein will get Purdue at the end of the year. They've been playing better ball and I think with a title at stake, Purdue could tighten up. As for tonight I was at the game...and boy oh boy it was just another solid win. Greg Stiemsma playing one of the better games of his career...Butch with some solid 3's...Flowers defense on Neitzel was suffocating...the only gripe I have is that the atmosphere wasn't up to par...it wasn't like it was back in the day when you were goin' to the games Nim...very lethargic and laxidazical. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
That's disappointing. The kids these days might just be getting spoiled. We never lose at the Kohl Center, and they probably can't remember when Wisconsin was a bad basketball school. So there's no reason to cheer loud.
Come on Ohio State..... they're playing for their Tournament life! |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I don't know how it's possible, but I think Brian Butch is worse right now than he has ever been at any time since he was 16 years old. He is horrendous in the post. He's nothing more than a defensive rebounding specialist who can hit an occasional three.
Marcus Landry on the other hand, is really progressing. I'm excited about watching him light up the Big Ten next year. He's really improving his game away from the basket, the shot look ten times better than it used to, and his post offense is looking great in the Big Ten Tournament too. I'm worried about what the loss of Butch, Steimsma, and Flowers will mean to the team, but at the same time I'm excited about the future. Now, if we can just lock up Jamil Wilson and Jeronne Maymon. Please, please, please!! EDIT: Johnnie Lacy too, if you don't mind Bo. Don't give these guys on a silver platter to Crean. Last edited by Nimreitz; 03-16-2008 at 02:32 PM. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Through to the Sweet 16 now, and we got a lot of help when Georgetown fell. I respect Davidson, but that is an easier game than Georgetown period.
I'm with you buddy, I think this is our year. We are peaking at the right time, and we are executing flawlessly. Flowers has as good a shot as anyone in the NCAA to shut down Curry, and we can protect him at the rim with our big guys. I just don't see how they match up against us well at all. I think it's going to be another 15 point victory. Kansas will be an interesting game, but maybe Villanova will give us an early Christmas present. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I'm not sure anyone can shot down Curry, but if anyone can, it's certainly Flowers.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I'll be there live and in person.
Not only do I love the fact that Flowers matches up on Curry...but Hughes will be smothering Richards, too. If Butch wants to have the biggest game of his career, now would be the time. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I think Landry will go off too. They don't have anyone who can stop those two guys. It'll be like the Georgetown game, except we won't turn the ball over 20 times, and we won't give them 30 FTAs, and we won't shoot under 50% from the line.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Hopefully. We also have a Memorial grad on this year's team in Nankivil. Wes Matthews also went there, but he's a traitor. It worries me though that it doesn't look like we're even recruiting him. We have this 6'7'' white boy from Minnesota who damn well better be the second coming of Joe Krabbenhoft committed, but we ignore kids in our own backyard like Maymon? Hopefully not.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I saw Maymon as well because I was watching my high school play Memorial in the first round of state. Although their different positions and a year apart, I think Lucious is the better WI prospect. Anyways, I'm sure Maymon will get a lot of offers from major D-1 programs. I'm not sure if UW-Madison will pursue him hard enough to get him. I've got this feeling that Tubby will get him to go to Minnesota.
