Give credit to UW-GB, though. They're a solid team under Coach Kowalcyzk. They had 20+ wins last year and they've already got 9 this year. They've got a legit chance to win the Horizon league. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Jeronne Maymon decommitted from Marquette. My guess is that his dad is in his ear saying things like "you're better than the minutes you're getting", but I also think that full time Snake Oil Salesman, and Part Time Basketball Coach, Buzz Williams probably lied through his teeth to Jeronne through out the entire recruiting process.
What does that have to do with Wisconsin? It throws Vander Blue's commitment into a bit of chaos. Looks like there is a small chance he might want to get out of his NLOI and come back to UW. I want him back, but whether Bo and some of the more traditional fans do is another thing. |

It would be interesting if Blue turned his back on UW, turned his back on MU, and returned to UW....

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Yeah, when someone told me about this last night I was shocked. Maymon looked pretty solid against Wisconsin and seemed to be coming into his own a little. Obviously my first thought was about his dad's influence; the guy has always been delusional and repeatedly said how Jeronne is going to be a 1 and done player and all that kind of stuff. Then throw in that Buzz is a sleezebag, and I'm sure he guaranteed a starting spot to Jeronne. This is all very strange, and because of his dad the speculation is running wild.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Wow, that is quite a surprise. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Maymon isn't allowed to transfer to Wisconsin, is he?
I'm surprised he was so unhappy. It's not like he had been playing outstanding, and for him to be coming off the bench and playing 15 minutes or so a game is pretty reasonable. Maybe Marquette's lack of size had something to do with this? I first got to see him play when he was a junior as Memorial took on my HS in the 1st round of state. He was a beast and seemed to block any shot inside the paint. I think he has a lot of potential and that Baylor was one of the schools that was originally recruiting him. That would be my early guess as to where he ends up.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Maymon's release had a condition that he couldn't go to Wisconsin. It's a pretty strange condition because Wisconsin didn't want him; his dad is a horrible influence (he was egging on, and flicking off the student section at the Kohl Center earlier this year, and seems to be the driving influence behind this transfer) and was the reason we never even offered him a scholarship. Lots of Badger fans are speculating that the "you can't go to Wisconsin" clause is more of a message to Vander Blue if he tries to get out of his LOI.
As far as Buzz being a sleezebag goes: look at this situation for starters. He promised Maymon minutes, and he promised him that he would play on the wing. Despite that, Maymon is basically the most capable post player Buzz has ever recruited to Marquette (which says something, because Maymon is pretty short and Buzz seems to be a great recruiter). Maymon got pissed about the broken promises, although he should have just chilled the **** out and talked to Lazar Hayward, who played in the post until his senior year. But yeah, he's a slimy recruiter in the Calipari mold. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I laugh when guys like Jon Crispin claim that Talor Battle is the best PG in the Big 10. In front of Mr. Crispin right now, Trevon Hughes is just dominating him. Trevon isn't even the best PG the B10 has to offer...

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I don't think you can definitively say one guy is better than the other, but Battle is pretty darn good even if he is struggling a bit today. Not many are going to argue against Lucas.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I'm so pissed that I was on vacation for a few days and missed the OSU and PSU games. Holy ****, are we really looking this good? I could see us put together a pretty sick Tourny run.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I'd say this team is as good as two years ago when we were a 3 seed and got beat by Davidson in the Sweet 16.
But if you compare those teams, Hughes and Leuer have two more years of experience and are playing way better than they were then. Bohannon is shooting lights out, and Nankivil is contributing very well. Wilson has come off the bench and played well, too. That makes me believe that this team has a higher ceiling than the '07-'08 squad. One thing that I've really liked is that Ryan has given more playing time lately to Jordan Taylor who has been playing very well. I'd like to see the opposite happen to Jarmusz because he doesn't contribute all that much, imo.
