Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Why do we always have problems with UNLV?

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Lon Krueger I guess.
Anyway, a pretty good start to the year. Jon Leuer has been very consistent and Jordan Taylor looks quite good. Bo isn't anywhere near figuring out his rotation yet, so the team can only get better. Ken Pomeroy has Leuer as #2 on his NPOY list so far. |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Logic dictates yes, but my homerism for Leuer dictates #1.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
You should put that in your sig because that is pure gold.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Wow, Jared Berggren is really good. I had no idea he had these skills, but in 2 years he could be just as good as Leuer is right now. Seems like a better low post defender and much stronger than Leuer too. Not quite as quick.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
I caught a bit of the game yesterday and realized I'm way behind on my Badger-basketball watching this year... I take it from what I have seen that Leuer has continued to progress.
Tough loss yesterday.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Might as well do a little recruiting stuff here. Haven't really gotten into recruiting on this board since the Vander Blue stuff, and even then I don't think I was saying much.
2011: 4 man class. Jared Uthoff is the guy with the most stars. Seems like a pretty typical Wisconsin big man in the Jon Leuer mold. Good shooter, a little stiff, 6'8'' (which maybe makes Wilkinson the better comparison). I'm actually a little amazed at all the talent that's been coming out of Iowa in the last 5 years. Next I'd say is Chicago Area point guard George Marshall. Don't really know much about him, but the impression I get is that he sounds exactly like Jordan Taylor did as a high schooler. Mature beyond his years, great intangibles, doesn't necessarily have great skills, but just a player. Sounds great to me. Jim Jackson's kid Traevon is next on the list. We haven't had a good shooting guard (J-Bo MAYBE) in quite awhile, so hopefully he can live up to his bloodlines. Finally, 6'10'' white center Frank Kaminsky. Seems like a Butch/Berggeren type. 2012: We only graduate Rob Wilson and Jordan Taylor, so it's a smaller class. Already committed is Sam Dekker, 6'7'' wing from Sheboygan Lutheran. I'm skeptical because he's so white, but reports are that he's decent enough. I suspect he's another Jarmusz, but who knows. That's not really what we care about for 2012 though, the story is 100% JP Tokoto. His hype is so large that I turned on Sports Radio 1250 on Saturday morning and they blocked off a 2 hour show with him, his coach, and his dad just talking about everything. I've heard rumors that Huckleberry might be backing off and cooling on JP, which is awesome. Why? Well, because JP's national ranking has slided, and I have to agree with that decision by the big talent evaluators; I'm worried that he might be a poor man's Harrison Barnes. And as for UNC, they have their eyes on better players at his position. Anyway, he said he was down to 6 or 7 schools. These are almost certainly: Wisconsin, Marquette, UNC, Duke, and Kansas, then there might be a wild care in there. Duke seems to have more talented targets in mind as well, but Tokoto's a good mix of brains and talent, so I don't think they'll give up on him. Marquette doesn't stand a chance, just plain and simple. Bo Ryan is putting the full court press on the kid, which is something he rarely does personally, and I just think we have an amazing chance to land Tokoto. I'm pretty optimistic. That he hasn't improved much in the last year or two might be a bit of a blessing in disguise for us as his national profile cools. Because once he gets to Wisconsin Bo is going to kick his ass and make him earn every second of playing time, and I guarantee he will improve. 2013: Not much has emerged about who we're looking at except for one: Bronson Koening, sophomore point guard at La Crosse Aquinas. From what I can tell, this kid appears to be the real deal. I've heard reports of him looking like Pistol Pete on the court. UNC is following him, and it appears most of the bigger schools might get more interested this summer as he heads into his junior year. His team played Lin Mar recently and I've read that he looked every bit as good as Marcus Paige with more potential. The kid is 16 and Paige is a UNC recruit! |

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
Gasser has a triple double (first one I can remember in all my time watching Wisconsin) and Wisconsin demolishes Northwestern.

Re: Nimreitz's Wisconsin Basketball Thoughts
First in Wisconsin history. Just an awesome performance.
I'm getting pumped for our home game against Purdue.
