Well, I know one place where it definitely won't be........Burlington. Not only too cold and snowy, but you don't even have a facility. And the roads to Burlington are so treacherous that you basically need a horse and sleigh to get there.

I disagree...with that casino across the street and other improvements in Bangor, there are some things for people to do now. It really is becoming a place to visit...hell, could take a short drive to Acadia National Park as well. This arena puts Bangor in play now I think...

Re: OT: New Bangor Arena Update

How long it takes to drive to Burlington and Maine.

Durham 3 hours 20 min to UM 3 hours 23 min to UVM
Boston 4 hours 9 min to UM 3 hours 41 min to UVM
Hartford 5 hours 39 min to UM 4 hours to UVM
Albany 6 hours 43 min to UM 3 hours 10 min to UVM
Bing 8 hours 55 min to UM 5 hours 15 min to UVM

Those are the reasons the tourney won't be held at Maine. UVM if they get a new arena has a chance because it's not that far. I thing Bing is farther away from most teams than UVM.

Re: OT: New Bangor Arena Update

How is the site of the Conference Tournament selected? I can't remember...is it a closed bid type of thing?

I don't think an additional 3 hours for two schools is going to be a deal breaker.

That stuff is overrated.......but either way, Burlington is DEFINITELY out of the running. If the money, facility and support is there (and I'm not saying that 2 of the 3 currently are at Maine) then Bangor would be in play. This is not about the fans (other than the actual experience at the tournament).........this is about $$$$ and putting it in conference coffers.

Exactly.

At this point, AE practically has to begs schools to submit bids! If Bangor/UMaine submit a winning bid.........then the tournament will be held there. End of story.

Personally, I think that some fans are worried that a tournament in Maine would actually be successful..........

Re: OT: New Bangor Arena Update

I have been going to the tournament for the past 9 years. It would be fun to go to a new site. The arena looks like it has potential to be awesome. Rumor has it Stony Brook is hosting in 2015 in their renovated arena. Only concern about that would be lodging.

I think that many fans feel this way.

Now that Boston is out of the loop.........it seems like trying some new sites would be a good thing.

Re: OT: New Bangor Arena Update

I actually think you could get a pretty good amount of fans...look, like it or not, people love casinos and this is one that most likely none of the AEast fans (other than Maine) have ever been to. It's a part of the country most AEast fans may not have ever been to. I think the tourney could go over pretty well actually.

Maine needs to build a fan base first........so AE fans against a tourney in Bangor probably have nothing to worry about.

I do think that another hotel near the arena would help in Bangor's quest to host a tourney. Hollywood Casino's hotel is nice and fairly big.........but I don't think that the conference wants a casino to host its teams or conference officials. This is the NCAA we are talking about. Fans are another story.......I'm sure that the casino hotel would be sold out with fans.

True about the fans...not so sure about the hotel near the arena though. Bangor has added a few new hotels over by the mall which really do offer fairly easy drives to the Cross Center, esp if you use 395. The hotels they put the teams up in Hartford as well as Boston weren't always that easy/convenient to the arenas.

I don't know...I'd be very interested to see how the tourney would go over there.

Supposedly, there is a hotel in the works for the BDN building site across the street.

Really? Is the BDN no longer in that location?

If they do build a hotel there, they should constuct an over the road covered walkway from the 2nd or 3rd floor of the hotel and connect it to the convention center portion of the arena. That would be perfect...

The BDN building was put up for sale and they will be relocating their operations. Sounds a bit weird to me.......must be hard up for $$$ and possibly shrinking their staff (???)
