Re: UMaine athletics: Worst year in history?
What suprises me most about this series of posts is that I imagine Maine to be the flagship university for the state. I've said some of the same things about Saint Louis University, but here we have the elephant in the room of SPUMAC (which is a colorful way of saying Mizzou). Good luck up there...sounds like your fans could use some good news.

Re: UMaine athletics: Worst year in history?
The University of Maine has not won a game against Division I competition in any sport since November 28, when Maine defeated Northeastern in men's basketball.
This has been your "The University of Maine is an embarrassment to America East" fact of the day. |

Re: UMaine athletics: Worst year in history?
I wonder how much money UMaine is spending per loss?
Or even scarier........how much UMaine is spending per win! Last edited by mainejeff; 12-12-2012 at 09:42 AM. |

Re: UMaine athletics: Worst year in history?
For women's basketball if they want to keep their coaches in Maine they should look at the coaches at Colby & Bowdoin. Both are relatively young and have decent success in a few short years at the school, of course both are struggling this year however because each lost a lot of the starting lineup.
Can't say anything for men's basketball. The teams in Maine (they I know first hand) either the teams aren't very good, or the coaches are old neither of which would be a good higher. |

Shibles is a no. Bowdoin was D3 royalty when she took over and the program is quickly falling to mediocrity in the NESCAC and is behind USM and maybe even UNE for D3 programs in Maine. Gromacki will end up being a great hire by some program if he ever decides to leave Amherst, he's as much of a guaranteed success as Pemper was when she left for Navy. |

He started his coaching career (albeit 1 season) @ Plymouth state in New Hampshire. If that counts, I'll take my nickel But your right, he ain't leaving Colby anytime soon.

Re: UMaine athletics: Worst year in history?
If Maine is going to avoid going an entire month without winning a game in any sport (Nov. 28 last win), these are the remaining opportunities:
12/22: MBB v. Florida Gulf Coast 12/28: MIH v. Minnesota-Duluth in Estero, Florida 12/28: WBB @ James Madison WIH: no games |
