Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
Really, dude, move on... I've been following Vermont and a fan of them long before you... I was cheering them on in Worcester when they knocked off Syracuse, where were you?
I was devestated in 2002 when Trevor Gaines career came to an end in an absolute screw-job in the semi-finals against Maine, where were you? I'm done with this. Claiming I'm biased against UVM is something only you by into. My views might very well be wrong, but to claim they are wrong because I am anti-Vermont is garbage, I base my views on a ton of observations from going to 4-5 America East games a week, and maybe my observations are flawed, maybe they are innacurate, but to claim I'm anti Vermont is absolutely rediculous... but then again, I shouldn't be surprised, this is coming from a poster who tried to imply that Vermont was getting hosed by America East refs because those refs were betting on UVM games... |

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
i was watching just not on this message board. why are you so concerned about what i have watched and not watched. you may go to 4-5 games but it doesnt seem like you come up to patrick too often to watch the cats. you said murphy burnatowski can guard any position on the floor. what a joke.
you must be a maine fan. your love for them is unreal. |

Pretend for a moment that you live in Boston and have a job. There are two games scheduled. One of them is in any of Boston, Hartford, Albany, or Durham. The other one is in Burlington. Guess which game is within driving distance? Now pretend that it's Friday night, and you're planning your weekend. There's games all over the map, and you want to go to two of them. If you haven't noticed, Burlington isn't particularly close to... anywhere. It's not easy to get there, and if there's several interesting games on the schedule, going to Burlington limits your ability to catch two games that weekend. So yes, Sam doesn't get to a lot of Vermont games at Patrick, because reality dictates that those games are not as easy to get to. What Sam does do is attempt to visit Patrick when the schedule permits, and then catch Vermont games whenever the Catamounts are closer to Boston. I can speak to this because I talk to Sam about his schedule and which games he can reach at least once a week. When there are multiple games scheduled within range, Sam will almost always pick the game that features the team that he has seen least often. And you can bet that if the UVM-BU game at the end of the regular season has seeding implications and Sam can get there, he will be there. As for Burnatowski, he remains one of the only players in the league capable of effectively defending both guards and forwards, something that is incredibly valuable. I wouldn't put him in a league with Jabbi or a healthy Brenton, but he's definitely a versatile defender. He can guard 1 through 5 - that doesn't mean he can guard every PG all the way up through every C and shut all of those players down, but he can stay with most players at every position and do a good job. And if you're going after Sam for being too high on Maine, you're going after the wrong person... I'm a much, much better target. |

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
Like I said, the only think I can confirm is that it doesn't have anything to do with basketball or his injury. I don't even know if he attended spring classes and dropped out or not.

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
At least with DLR back for another season, Lane can learn behind him before having to take over as as sophomore.
Does mean we have another scholarshi oen though now. We need another shooter. Even if it's another guy that is mostly a jump-shooter ... We're still going to be a mess again ... Bleh. |

I am a big fan of your's and Sam's writing, but I have often wondered why we never see either of you at Patrick. I gotta believe the #5 team in the pre-season poll being in first place and earning another 20+ win season is pretty compelling. I would think AE journalists would want to cover the team and the story as much as possible... |

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
And, for the record, I do appreciate constructive criticism of the blog. Constructive criticism makes things better.
But this thread isn't about the blog, it's about outbound transfers, and now I want to know what happened with Groce. Not that I was ever a big fan of his... but UMBC could really use Chauncey Gilliam right now. |

Randy's defense requires the off-the-ball guard or wing player to sag down to the post WAY too much. Ball reversal catches us off-guard and results in open looks far too often. Some of that is the player and some of that is Randy not adjusting weak-side help to keep us from over-committing. It's been three years of this now and Randy still isn't adjusting. Yes, DiLegro mauled us on Saturday but that's been the exception and not the rule. I think we will miss Groce but hopefully Lane can use the eperience he's gaining as a guard on the #1 HS team in the country to back up DLR in 2011-12. |

You can get away with allowing opponents to shoot a high percentage if you limit opponents to one shot, and you can get away with allowing a few extra offensive rebounds if you contest shots well. UMBC is terrible at forcing bad shots AND rebounding missed shots (and UMBC also can't play defense without fouling, but that's separate). But I don't expect any of those things to get better anytime soon, so if UMBC is going to win games it will have to be by outscoring the opponent, in which case CDLR really needs some help. Gilliam, warts and all, would be help. |
