Gilliam would have helped, there's no doubt about that. So would have Shawn Grant. DLR, Gilliam, Grant, and Plummer is a pretty decent scoring foursome ... Even if the defense is atrocious, they'd be fun to watch. |

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
It's funny, I haven't thought about Garvey Young since the off-season. I guess maybe for a second during the Q-Pac game.
I really wonder what he thinks about UVM's season thus far.

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
Josh Duell transferring home to Siena/new coach- I got that.
Ryan Schneider transferring home to Marist/new coach- I got that. Joe Trapani transferring because he was too good to play in the AE- I got that. Jason Green transferring down a level- I got that Rob Sisca transferring...because he wasn't going to play and wasn't a D1 player- I got that Jordan Clarke transferring- I got that (even though it bummed me out and I wish it worked out) But Garvey Young, a sophomore but still two-year starter transferring to Quinnipiac right before his junior year and poised for a break out season/leader of the team- I don't think I'll ever understand that.

He's a SG. Not a SF ... If he's getting more that four rebounds a night then someone else isn't doing their job. And since Fjeld and Blakely combined for about 15 of the 37 rebounds Vermont got a night, I don't know what you're thinking right now. You want to bitch about someone being soft, talk about Maurice Joseph who played the 3 and got 1.5 rebounds a night less than Garvey did. You must really annoy me if I'm defending Vermont players now. |

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
Yeah, should probably have prefaced my post in that I do know the reasons why and what caused Garvey to decide to transfer- I will just never understand how misguided it was.

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
you have it wrong charliemike. Mojo played the two and garvey played the three. garvey is also atleast an inch taller than mojo and stronger with better hops. lonergan multiple times said he wanted garvey to rebound more. four rebounds is ok nothing special for one of the most athletic SF in the league. cdlr, holland, voelkel, ambrose, aronhalt, burton are all averaging more than four a game this year. Garvey did pick up his rebounding in conference play last year. He was averaging 3.5 before then. Garvey game should of excelled in rebounding and defense. He was only a great defender though. His offense wasnt good at all.

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
how is mojo more of a small forward than garvey young also. i'm really confused by this. garvey may have guarded the opposing teams sg sometimes for match up reasons. as far as i know you would put the bigger, stronger, longer, taller guy at small forward.

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
An update on the infamous Devon McBride. I think the article actually undercounts his number of schools by a few. He is currently wearing his 4th different college uniform, playing his 3rd season of eligibility at the 4th college he has attended (he also signed a letter of intent at a 5th, but was released before attending classes).
Great line from his current coach. Quote:

Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread
I hadn't thought about Garvey since seeing him on the sidelines at the Q-Pac game. We could have really used his perimeter D on Sunday. It's too bad that things didn't work out for him at Vermont. I disagree that he was a soft competitor. He was a quiet competitor but that didn't make him soft. I also think that despite not being a go to player on offense he had something to offer in that department. In last year's Conference Championship he hit a couple very important threes in the first half. The most frustrating part of Garvey's transfer, in my opinion, is the way it was handled with the media. The BFP did a big article about Garvey's departure and his desire to be closer to his ailing Grandma in DC. Five months later he lands in Connecticut. If, in fact, that was not the real reason, as some have speculated. I wish he would have said he was leaving for personal reasons and left it at that. I'd rather have a non-answer than a half-truth.
