Re: Outbound Transfers Catch-All Thread

Yeah, Woods transferred from ASU and wasn't granted a DJ Rivera Waiver so he had to sit out per normal NCAA transfer rules.

If he was eligible, you better believe he would have played.

But I feel like I heard something about him leaving Bing right when the Broadus stuff broke?

Yeah, I'm aware of the rule. Didn't remember when his transfer took place. Hard to keep track, what with all the comings and goings, especially when it's a guy who hasn't played.

Figured it was eligibility, though, for transfer reasons or otherwise.

So a question, since I don't know how this portion of the rule works: Since Woods hasn't played at Binghamton yet and sat out all year last year, if he does transfer again during this offseason, does he have to sit out another year? Given the situation, I assume it wouldn't be all that hard for him to get a waiver, but I'm not sure whether he would need one or not.

I'm not 100% but IIRC, no he doesn't have to sit out again.

Pina Guillaume, Fr Bing
Kyrie Sutton, So Bing
Dylan Talley, Fr Bing
Greer Wright, Jr Bing

I think we all knew they were transferring though. Goodman had waited to post on those guys until it was confirmed.

This information leads me to believe a few things:
1. None of these players received NCAA waivers for transfers and will have to sit out next season if they transfer.
2. If Kraidon Woods wants to retain his 2 years of division 1 basketball eligibilty, he will be doing so for Binghamton and only Binghamton.

The reason I believe all this is because Woods was originally part of the Binghamton 5 that wanted to transfer after this season. Woods, unlike the other 4, has already transferred once, going from Arizona State to Binghamton and sat out last season as per NCAA transfer rules. It is my understanding that a player must complete his 4 years of eligibility within 5 years. This rule is in place to allow a player the opportunity to transfer once without loosing years of eligibility. If a player transfers a second time, they would have to sit out an additional year and would forfeit a year of eligibility. Therefore if Woods were to transfer again (without a waiver), he would lose a year of eligibility. This is something I don't think he would do, even with the mess that is Binghamton basketball right now. If he were to have received a transfer waiver, he would probably be on this most recent list as well. But since he is not on this list, it suggest that he and therefore none of these players got waivers.

From earlier in the thread:

Quote:
Other Binghamton players who also received transfer waivers to play right away are Greer Wright,Dylan Talley, Pina Sabour Guillaume and Kraidon Woods.
Kraidon Woods, unlike the rest of the "Binghamton 5" (if that's what we're calling them), has never had any meaningful playing time at the Division-I level. I think either of the following two scenarios are more likely:

- Woods realizes the roster situation has been blown wide open and he'll most likely get more minutes at Binghamton than he'd be able to get anywhere else;
- Woods has seen very little court time for three years and when he started asking around he didn't find his transfer options appealing.

Or, alternately, Woods is still planning on transferring but none of the details have popped up anywhere so Goodman hasn't heard anything of substance about it.

I guess the theme of this Kraidon Woods discussion is: nobody knows.

No, it is 4 playing years in 5 actual years... take it from someone who has been up against that same situation... 4 in 5. You have to petition for a 6th and it needs to be something more than injury/lack of playing time/the usual (were talking death in the family type stuff to get a 6th year).

I think it's a lot more prevalent in football.

Still would have to be two years lost to injury. Guys have petitioned when they lost a year to injury after they did a freshman redshirt year for non-injury reasons, but are consistently denied the sixth year.

This happened to Sean Watson. He petitioned last year for a 6th year and was denied.

What's goin on with Scott Brittain? I assumed his BU and basketball careers were both over because of his reoccurring struggles with concussions, but I saw him listed on Jeff Goodman's transfer list
