Binghamton University had the most student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll with 273 recipients. University of Vermont came in second with
226 athletes recognized, followed by University of New Hampshire (204), Boston University (194), University at Albany and Stony Brook University (182),
UMBC (168), University of Maine (162) and University of Hartford (139).
The Bearcats also had the most athletes listed on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll with 158 student-athletes achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher. Vermont and
New Hampshire followed with 98 and 96 recipients, respectively.
Don't be too shocked, charliemike. The men's basketball team only had one player on Academic Honor Roll, Sean Watson, who was also a Commissioner's Honor Roll student. Other than that, no one from the hoops team had 3.0+.

It's remarkable that Tim had to sit his first year as a prop kid and now he's on this list. Kudos to him!
It's a great accomplishment for the player. The part that's kind of sad is that it isn't all that uncommon. A lot of these kids are exploited by their schools or are the product of a poor educational system. Put them in an environment with some decent support and they can do well. I know of two UMass players who were forced to sit out and both graduated on time with 3.0+ GPA's. One spent four years at a private school with a decent reputation, the other was totally screwed by BOCES which classified him as borderline when he actually had a severe learning disability. I'm sure Ambrose got good academic support from UMBC and it's all to his credit that he has taken advantage of it and thrived academically. The player and the school both have reason to be proud.
Four BU athletes honored as SUNY Chancellor Scholar-Athletes
Mayben, McDonough, Smith, Vloedgraven recognized by state
VESTAL, N.Y.– Four Binghamton University student-athletes have been honored by New York State as SUNY Chancellor Scholar-Athletes. Selected in a vote of administrators at the four Division I SUNY programs were basketball player Emanuel Mayben, baseball player Murphy Smith, volleyball player Michelle McDonough and men's tennis player Sven Vloedgraven.
The award winners each had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and achieved distinction in their athletic endeavors as well.

It's nice to see Murphy Smith on the list. He will be leaving Bing to join the Oakland A's system after his junior year. I'm sure he'll find a way to graduate.

Minor correction...Timmy is attending UA not UMBC. I agree with you though....

Albany basketball season ticket holder since..........June'06
Tunde Agboola
Scott Brittain
Tyler Morris
Michael Schulze
Valdas Sirutis
Sam Tully
Matt Wolff (hey-oooo)
Women's basketball:
Kristi Dini
Aly Hinton
Christine Kinneary
Maggie McKemie
Amarachi Umez-Eronini
Sidenote: Matt Wolff now works as a bouncer at a popular BU bar. He was working the door one night and it was beyond terribly awkward when I went in. At least I won't have to see him play basketball ever again and at least he made honor roll.
