If UA has any hope of escaping the PIG, tonight's game vs UNH is a must win. This team has played well for stretches (First half vs BU, UVM, 38 minutes vs bingo, hartford, SB). Hopefully they can put forth a complete, 40 minute effort tonight

UNH coach Bill Herrion, whose team snapped a three-game losing streak, was asked how far he thought UAlbany was from developing into a good team.
“The hardest thing at this time of the year, being in this business a long time, is you get very envious of the teams in the country that are winning right now,” Herrion said. “Because when you come in that gym every day, the spirits are sky high, the issues are minimal.
“The kid Mike Black, he’s going to be a terrific player,” Herrion said. “He’s really, really good. But you know what, it’s like any team in America. To win this time of year, you need your veterans. We start four juniors, and that’s been my appeal to them … Those guys have to lead for us and we’ve struggled with that, trust me. We just don’t have a lot of leadership.”

“If there’s a history of that, it certainly won’t be the case here,” Thirer said. “I can guarantee that. We just don’t want to win that badly.”

I've heard Herrion stress senior leadership many time before, I'm sure his favorite leader since he's been at UNH was Jermaine Anderson, always willing to take the big shot and a great foul shooter. That being said it's interesting in his choice of captains: Abreu, Santos, and Onguetou. It seems DiLiegro provide the emotional spark for the team, not sure how he didn't get selected. Another leadership issue for UNH is that both PGs are underclassmen.
Alvin's a clear leader, IMO. Very cool and collected, very good motivator. His shooting percentage has also improved over the last few, which is nice to see.

Alvin Abreu is a man, plain and simple. Alvin Abreu has been a man since he stepped foot on campus as an 18 (19?) year old three years ago. There are few players, people, and certainly leaders of his caliber who ever come through this conference.
