uconn is a powerhouse program and i dont know why some people try to diminish that here. its pretty sad to be in their situation right now due to Football... good enough not to be with the bad boys, but not good enough to be with big boys...

If there were a list of alma maters of NC legislators, you'd see a whole heck of a lot of Duke and Wake Forest alums there. Especially Wake.

NC State is barely a college, no one in NC cares what they do.

These moves are based on a combination of institutional quality, market presence/size/penetration/dominance, football quality, basketball quality, historical relevance, facilities, geography, political influence and several other factors. How these are weighted varies by conference. If you look at what the major conferences want and take a step back (put your thumb over the word "UConn" if you have to) it makes sense that they haven't been selected by the Big Ten or ACC.

Why I would want to arbitrarily "diminish their accomplishments" is perplexing. I just understand exactly why they're in this situation and am not surprised.

I am a bit surprised that they have been SO crapped on though..........I don't think that many across the rest of the country like New England schools in general. Not sure what it is, but UConn is bearing the brunt of it.

I was reading some stuff over the weekend from a few guys in the south that have contacts throughout the country at various schools/league offices (one of the guys was the one that had the Maryland/Rutgers to the Big Ten a couple days before it happened)...anyway, for what it's worth, they are all saying that the Big Ten is definitely courting Virginia, North Carolina, GA Tech and Duke but the school I found that they said was really being discussed was Florida State. It appears as though Delany wants to add them in the worst way (other than AAU affiliation, FSU offers the Big Ten everything they covet - top notch CFB program, Florida TV sets, fertile recruiting ground, etc) and that he has been in discussions with Big Ten presidents about that school.

Again, take all this stuff with a grain of salt, but I will say these few guys have been among the first to know of some realignment things before they were made public...and it does seem as though where there is smoke, there is fire.

I still have a hard time seeing the Big Ten going in that direction but if he can sell it to the Presidents that IF they cave on FSU, he will bring them those other 4 that are clearly excellent academic schools, he may get it done.

In addition, the theory is if they can accomplish this, it gets them to 17 schools and at that point, it looks like either Notre Dame or Texas would be in the sights of the Big Ten to get to 18.

Anyway, lots of interesting speculation out there...

Too big IMO.........it will work for a while due to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...........but it will inevitably fall a part eventually. Best bets are UNC and Virginia IMO. If anything, Delaney is trying to squash the Big 12........he knows that if the Big 12 can add Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech and Clemson.........that they will be a player. Guy has an ego the size of Jupiter.

It's actually looking like they are looking to squash the ACC...they have by far the worst TV deal (among the Big Ten, SEC, Big XII & ACC) and with the fact that FSU & a couple others have expressed some issues, they ACC appears the most vulnerable. But what Delany really wants is a presence in the Southeastern part of the US where a great deal of the population lives.

He does a have a massive ego, but the dude makes stuff happen. He has a way of getting what he wants...this will be a very interesting thing to watch but nothing will most likely happen for the next few weeks as the Maryland vs ACC lawsuit gets figured out. Rumor has it that if the settling figure is below $40 million, it's done that the Big Ten will make its' moves and go get who they want.

Will the SEC & Big XII make a preemptive move first?

So tomorrow we officially find out the Big East is bringing in X, Butler for next year. Creighton, SLU and Dayton likely to follow.

Sources: Catholic 7 To Retain 'Big East' Name

The Catholic 7's exit from the Big East is being expedited by Fox Sports Network. The network initially contacted the seven schools and laid the groundwork for them to leave the Big East with the promise of a lucrative media-rights deal, a source said.

Fox Sports Network is expected to announce the addition of the Catholic 7/Big East basketball league Tuesday in New York as part of the network's news conference announcing the addition of Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 channels.

Fox Sports Network's deal with the Catholic 7 is expected to be worth at least $3 million annually per school, sources said.

It's unknown how much it will cost the Catholic 7 to keep the Big East name.

The departure of the Catholic 7 schools, which would officially begin their new league on July 1, also could mean Notre Dame joins the ACC this summer instead of 2014.

Love that this is gonna finally start falling into place. That will be a very good league. Must say I'm a little surprised Creighton appears to be the frontrunner in this new league but they will certainly fit. Wonder if maybe St. Louis & Dayton just don't want to pony up the money to join next year...

+1 all the way around...going to be interesting to see if Seton Hall, Providence, St. John's can elevate their programs back up. This will be an awesome league for sure.
