Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
If I had to make a general prediction about the BCS conferences:
Big Ten goes to 16 ACC goes to 16 SEC goes to 16 Big 12 adds 2(after losing Missouri to the Big Ten and Colorado to the PAC-10) and stays at 12 Big East (football) ceases to exist. |

Jeff's hybrid conference with NU, HU, Drexel, BU, GWU, etc is the one "conference" I've heard the most of if the chips fall and the Big East get raided and wind up a non-football conference (remember, the name stays with the "Catholic" schools).

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
Looks like it's going to be Syracuse, Rutgers, Pitt, Missouri and Nebraska headed to the Big Ten:

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
Gotta think the bottom will break just as the top did - Football first. Thus, I'd be surprised to see the AE and PL the way it's listed.
Very nice work with the rest of the list though ![]() Just wondering, did you consider Lamar, UTSA, TxST, and Sam Houston as they consider moving up? Sounds like the Southland is in flux atm. |

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
I just don't see UMass and URI wanting to move in the same athletic direction as those programs (no football). Losing every big basketball name would be a big blow as well.......to scheduling and REVENUE. Now, if Temple stays in that conference.......that might be enough to keep them there (I'm sure that having BU and NU in that league might also be attractive to them). But when you look at the make-up of those schools.......UMass and URI are on the outside looking in. If they both decide to can their football programs then they most certainly would stay with that league.

Didn't consider the Southland because it doesn't really affect the Eastern schools. |

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
It could though - if CUSA expands it could choose to take in schools in their normal catchment (Texas) to keep the market open. I that case, I don't see ODU, JMU, or even Temple with a half a shot at getting a slot so long as UTSA, TxSt, and Lamar project to bring in a better product (all three arguably do)

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
Keep in mind this story was written by the Siena beat writer, not Albany's, and the picture accompanying it was of Rich Ensor. AEast was along for the ride on this one.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
At least, you could call it journalism. Press & Sun switches between university mouthpiece and Pete Thamel retweeter.
