Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
The post should read that Butler is joining the A-10 immediately. It has been confirmed by both the Butler administration and the A-10. The Bulldogs were intitially going to ente the league in the 2013-14 season, They however have been having issues with the Horizon League (supposedly were going to have every program exlcuded from post season) and have decided to follow in the steps of VCU with an immediate entry. The A-10 will now have 16 teams next season with deaprting members Temple and Charlotte staying on one more year and the immediate additions of VCU and Butler.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
My sources tell me that BU got an invite to the CAA but would rather go A10 so are undecided on what to do. SB may have had some discussions with the CAA but no offer as of yet. Not sure the extent of the SB talks. Could be football only.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
Reading the CAA forums it seems the CAA is looking to completely alienate it's football only members. We've talked here a lot - but I dont think it would take too much for the AE to put a serious crimp in the CAA's style by adding football.

Other possibility is if UMASS leaves and the A10 had some strong desire to stay in Massachusetts and we'd fight NU for the spot. I don't think this would be case though as long as better basketball programs are available in different parts of the country. Why replace UMASS with BU when George Mason and Creighton are available? I don't buy that we have an invite to the CAA though. |

I hope they decline this invitation. I think BU can end up in a stronger position if we can be part of the AE proactively improving itself. If that can't happen though, they may have to say yes. |
