Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
In talking to him I don't see the PL as a match academically and not sure the NEC wants to expand further, and they absolutely want to be in the northeast, that leaves AE. They have a conference call with the Great West next week and there is a decent chance, not definite that Chicago State and Tx-Pan American head the WAC. I got the feeling they were tired (maybe that's the wrong word) of being in a hodgepodge conference that doesn't get treated well by the NCAA and think they deserve to be in a geographically and academically competitive conference.

I can't say I'm excited about it- but I can't say that about any of the schools mentioned that could join the league. Q-Pac is my favorite candidate, not because of any affinity towards them, but they bring a "ready now" basketball team.

Had to go back a few pages to find this thread, but here we go again.

I kid, though there's hardly a member of SBU Athletics who doesn't hope that SBU one day joins Rutgers and U Conn as athletic peers. Long, long, long, long way off though. |

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
According to what I'm hearing it is already a done deal. We'll see, but I'll give it a 90% chance of happening. UCONN to the ACC if it plays out.

Either way football is in the lower half of either conference except for some possible 8-4 years. |

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
UMD estimates this will fatten the coffers by $40 million annually with a good % of it coming from research dollars that the Big 10 enjoys. It does not take long to recover from a $50 million buyout at that pace. And that will be negotiated anyway. MD and FSU were the only 2 schools to vote against increasing the buyout to $50 mill recently, which indicates to me this has been a discussion point for some time.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?
Isn't BC dead set on keeping UConn out of the ACC, or is that not the case anymore since BC Football and BC Basketball are both barely relevant within the ACC at this point?
