That's not a bad move. Those Dakota schools are pretty good in football and M/W hoops

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?

Denver back to the Summit makes sense to get off the WAC sinking ship. As for Big East football, just call it the C-USA and have basketball break off already. I read an article that some schools are going to push for dissolution vote soon.

I have a feeling that has gained enough momentum by now...I mean, can the powers that be at Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul and Marquette really be excited about the crap that is joining the league? The Big East is adding teams for football (this everyone knows) but look at the watered down junk (Memphis excluded) that is coming in for hoops...Houston, SMU, Tulane, etc and this is after losing Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame and most likely Louisville and/or UConn.

And with this, is there anybody that thinks Maryland won't be a part of the Big Ten next fall as opposed to 2014?

Memphis and Temple are both two great basketball additions for Big East hoops.

SMU is very intriguing now with Larry Brown as the HC. He will get a number of top recruits to SMU given his NBA connections. Once he rides out of Dallas though, SMU will go back to being irrelevant.

Losing UConn and Louisville, at this point, would be a huge, huge blow IMO.

Houston and Tulane are not strong additions for hoops. Tulane used to be decent, but I can't remember the last time they fielded a solid basketball team. Tulane actually makes a lot of sense for Big East though, given large amount of student body is from north east/mid-atlantic states.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?

Is it really worth it for Providence, Seton Hall and St. John's to send their field hockey teams to Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, etc.?

Definitely not.......especially when those schools don't have field hockey.

Oh, OK........no, not worth it more their "non-revenue" sports. I don't even think it will come to that though........they'll end up ditching the Big East football abortion and keep the name as well.

They'll need a few extra programs though........

Providence
St. John's
Seton Hall
Villanova
Georgetown
DePaul
Marquette

I'm guessing that they'll go to a 10 team conference which would open up 3 sports.

The candidates (some way out there and some obvious):

Boston University
Holy Cross
Dayton
Xavier
Butler
VCU
Richmond
St. Louis

If I had to rank those candidates:

1A. Xavier
1B. Dayton
3. Richmond
4. St. Louis
5. Butler

The rest are real long shots.

They're not- it's Boston College.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?

BC should be voted out of the ACC. They're a disgrace.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?

I just really want the Big East bball schools to separate. That's all I am asking. Start the Catholic Conference, let the "Big East" football leftovers metastasize and die.

Re: Conference Expansion: Explosion Coming?

If you're UConn, would you even be all that upset at this point- I mean, maybe a few years ago, but now after all the musical chairs? I'd just go to the Big Ten.

That's the thing about these super conferences, they are just becoming interchangeable at this point. They should also stop calling themselves ACC & Big Ten and just start calling themselves The Super Big-Time Conference or something else that doesn't matter.

They can't go to the Big Ten, they'd never take them... they have no options!
They should explore MAC football membership and keep basketball with the Georgetown/Marquette group
