Renewable energy, world hunger, and water security are actually things his venture capitalist sons can capitalize on. The saving the world market is so hot right now.

But, you can still blame Pat McBride for not getting a little something something from Gund if you want, I won't object.
Another example that the super rich, even those with a sports background, are going to donate to what they want, and as much as we can wish, it may not be the new Arena. That's the reality.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Where are we getting our donation info from, Gregg Popovich?

"What are they announcing?"

"A gift."

"What kind of gift?"

"Major."

"Thanks coach."

Furthermore, if you're an alum, you got an email from President Sullivan saying that the Moving Mountains campaign has raised $418 million of its $500 million goal, about 80% with two years to go. Just a little mention about the sports teams doing well, but the arena is separate from the entire campaign. The best you can hope for is some overage funds being sent the athletic department's way.

Not accurate. Every fundraising dollar pledged, committed or donated during the campaign counts towards the campaign. If someone steps up with an 8 figure check for the new facility, it will be credited towards the campaign. The University has made clear, however, that it will not contribute/borrow towards the effort until adequate ($25-30MM) private funds have been raised.

Which is why it's basically a totally separate campaign until the foundation wants to take some credit for it when someone or someones step up. They ain't exactly advertising it for that reason, either.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Conversation with a well-informed friend this past weekend. UVM announced its 2017 Hall of Fame inductees. One is a basketball player of marginal repute: Rich Ader, class of 1963. He did make a second-team all-conference once in his career, and averaged 10 points per game apparently. But, hardly something that would warrant entry.

However, this is a key line in his bio on the UVM release:

"After graduation, he became a successful realtor and currently serves as the CEO and Managing Partner of U.S. Realty Advisors."

http://uvmathletics.com/news/2017/6/...e-in-2017.aspx

The friend also informed me he's on the UVM Foundation board of directors, and has made sizable donations to the school in the past. It was strongly hinted that his HOF induction is tied to a donation to the department, possibly the arena.

Not a bad strategy to have marginal players or donors (Cioffi) pay to be inducted in through a donation/endowment. We'll see if any of it materializes into something.

Let's add about 1000 more people to the Hall of Fame in next few months and get that Arena built!

Played in the UVM Golf Tournament today. Schulman gave his spiel at the end. Was very bullish on the new arena / Gut refurbish. So may be something to this.

If a HOF induction is what it takes, that's what it takes. Most people can only name a handful of people in the UVM HOF anyway.

All HOF players were good players in their time. I'm glad to see this.

How much of a sales pitch is "a new possible arena" used for trying to recruit incoming freshman for the basketball team?I know it's not set and stone yet, but does it have a little bit of a greater outlook to new recruits when they are told they may be playing in a new arena before they graduate at UVM? I really want to see this Arena build plan set and stone!
