Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Patrick is a a VERY out-dated glorified HS gym, but I still love the atmosphere and going to games there. This seems like it would strike a perfect balance between preserving the spirit of Patrick Gym but making it much more modern and increasing capacity.

Basically, If we made Patrick Gym look exactly like that drawing- I'd be more than happy.

One of the few things Binghamton Athletics has done right since moving to D1 was building the Events Center. Hopefully Vermont fans get a gym to match their enthusiasm.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

I am good with this. Anything to make Patrick not look like a high school gym. It is amazing how the program has had the success it has had with Patrick the way it is. I can only think making it look like an arena will boost recruiting even more.

Maybe I missed it, but was there any comment on the time frame for this?

If all this is true, and assuming it would take some time to complete, where would they play games when renovations are being done?

Anywhere but Pritchard gym. That would require a waiver.

The complex includes an athletic events plaza, a student athlete success center, new artificial turf fields and a complete upgrade of the existing athletic campus facilities. The Post Field on the main campus will include: a sunken outdoor stadium with artificial grass, lighting, press box, and an air-supported winter roof for winter; an urban pedestrian walk with concessions, seating, locker and storage facilities, and an events-plaza; a secondary artificial turf field with viewing platform, seating, and lighting; a Ticket Building for tickets, storage, concessions, game analysis, and administrative offices; a new track; 6-8 tennis courts; several natural grass recreational fields; and a variety of landscape elements intended to support pedestrian connections and exterior spaces surrounding the Gutterson/Patrick Gymnasium.

Centennial Field, a satellite athletic campus, will receive a new softball facility, complete with lockers, offices and team rooms. The existing interior athletic facility will receive a complete renovation, including: a completely revised entry and entry-lobby sequence; the renovation of the existing gym into a permanent, modern, arena-style basketball facility; reorganization of administrative offices and programs; a new state-of-the-art weight room facility; a newly constructed conditioning center, and general renovation and reorganization of support spaces, including locker rooms, storage, rest rooms, ticket booths, conference rooms etc.

Hearing from a source of mine that these plans are 10 yrs old and obviously didnt turn out. My thought is still that renovations are the best idea, but these plans have been sitting around for 10 yrs. If you look at the renderings, you can tell this as the track to the left in real life is brand new and in these artist renderings they look like the old track 10 years ago.

Also, in these plans they have stuff about baseball/softball which UVM no longer supports so....that should be a dead giveaway

The $30mm price tag is also far too low.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Sorry, didn't realize that plan has been around for 10 years. I was just rying to find ANYTHING about this since we haven't heard anything in what seems like a year. I still like the renovating idea though.

I would like to see a new arena style with a capacity between 400-4500 I think this is plenty and would make for a difficult place to play. The thing is i have no idea where we would play while those renovations were being constructed, the Barre Aud?lol

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Since we are on this topic and after tonight we probably won't have a ton to talk about here is a thread with a bunch of smaller arenas. Some of these are pretty cool and I think Patrick could take a couple of these ideas and turn out pretty freakin cool.

Honestly, who wouldn't love an atmosphere like this (even for 3,400 fans)

Personally, I think it would be awesome for you to retain a basketball only facility, with steep seats basically as close to the court as possible. Passionate fans who loom closely over a court offer the best advantage for a home team, IMO.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Seriously, that drawing on the architecture site nails it. Stands behind both hoops, and go up one more level with some seats, get a real video monitor/scoreboard, build an actual lobby...would be perfect.

Cameron's a dump. The only reason the students stand the whole game is that if you sit, your knees are up by your chin. There's less legroom than at Patrick, and the lighting is dimmer.
