Nice video of the DeMatha highlights. Bell comes in around the two and a half minute mark. Shows him hitting a couple threes, making a steal and converting a layup attempt.

Looks like a good player and he probably isn't used to losing playing at DeMatha, which is important to turn around a program.

BTW, at the 40 sec mark, I think the player who gets badly rejected is Boston U commit, Justin Alston. At least he took it strong to the hoop, so I appreciate the effort.

DeMatha headed to California to take on Lincoln HS, whom they went on to beat 59-48 to remain undefeated. Bell scored 17 points on six field goals, including five threes (and now has 21 in 6 games). He remains the Stags' (who are ranked 6th in the nation) leading scorer at 14.2 per game.

Anyone know anything about him? There doesn't seem to be much information out there. Essentially all I've been able to find is he's the returning NEPSAC class B player of the year and he high jumps over 6' 6". I wish I could find more info on him, but sounds like he could be a solid pick up for SBU

Have not seen him, but spoke to a buddy from Long Island who saw him when he was a Soph. at St. Dominic's. Clearly he is older (as he reclassed when he went to Berkshire Academy last year), as many kids these days are....that said, apparently he is an athletic 6'3+ who likes to attack of the dribble/in transition. Shoots it well from beyond the arc, and is a "scorer". Somewhat off the radar up there, and I would think that Class B in that league NEPSAC is not the most competitive.....looks like a good 2012 class for Stony Brook, which IMO they need knowing that Albany, Maine and BU continue to recruit higher level athletes as well. I still contend that Vermont, while historically the top program in the conference, MUST get more athletic at the PG position by adding someone who can facilitate for others....

seems like SBU has a good class. I think they will prolly be able to compete for a championship when this class becomes juniors.

UVM has been doing a great job recruiting lately. A PG is def a need for the future. the soph and freshmen playing the position now can stil do a fine job when they grow up some more. i dont think UVM should sign a PG in this class. they should snag a good one in the next class. i'm pretty excited about kilpatrick and O'Day. i think they will more than replace Bergman and Glass.

DeMatha won a tournament out in California between the 26th-30th of December. They won four games in four days to remain undefeated at 9-0. Bell hit 16 threes in the four games and averaged 13.5 points to lead DeMatha in scoring during the tournament. His season average of 13.6 still ranks highest on the team.

“One of the things I’m most proud of,” Jones said, “was that we took every team’s best shot.” Each time Windward made a run, the coach added, one of his top guns stepped up and pushed the momentum back in the Stags’ direction.

Marcellous Bell, who scored 17 points, hit a big 3-pointer to break the 11-2 run in the second quarter. He also drained a pair of key treys in the third quarter to help DeMatha run away with the game. “I stepped up and got some big buckets for my team,” Bell said after the victory.

“You have to give a lot of credit to him for the big 3’s,” Jones said. “[Jerami] Grant and Beejay [Anya] were huge. And everything runs through James Robinson. We’re so much better when he’s in the game.”
